Mr. Parker Grant, Biology, Chemistry
Teacher finds unexpected calling in science classroom

Mr. Parker Grant studied biology and chemistry in college, but didn’t realize he wanted to teach until the end of his program.
“I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with it until, more towards the end of when I was closer to graduation,” Grant said.
He loves learning about science, which now drives his teaching. Grant finds motivation in his students by learning about things they find interesting and applying scientific knowledge to their daily lives.
“A few of my classes can get pretty chaotic and loud. I try to make it a fun experience teaching biology and chemistry,” Grant said. He ensures students get hands-on experience, adding, “We’ve done a lot of labs so far. We’re about to do a lot in my current bio unit. So we try to do fun activities where we can apply the knowledge to real life.”
Grant found the job at Lakeview while searching for a teaching position in West Michigan. He applied after seeing the opening and chose LHS because he enjoyed the community and the people he met during the interview process.
“The West Michigan area is where I’m from. So LHS was one of the options I considered. And when I interviewed here, I really liked the people I met, liked the community that they presented to me, and it really solidified my choice,” Grant said.
Mrs. Angela Parshall, English Language
Parshall brings multilingual expertise to diverse classrooms
In Parshall’s first year of college she realized she wanted to become a teacher, and she thought she wanted to teach chemistry. However, she realized it was the teacher she liked but not the subject.
She always wanted to work with kids which lead her to her desire to teach.
She taught elementary school, middle school. She currently teaches at KCC in the early childhood

department, where she teaches students who wanna be childcare workers or day care workers.
Parshall has been a part time teacher since 2008, she started in a classroom, but later switched to online teaching.
Parshall enjoys teaching at LHS with the multilingual kids , though she was nervous she grew to enjoy it because of the welcoming the kids gave her. Parshal wanted to teach at LHS because she wanted to do something with her masters in English and other languages.”
I wanted to do something with my masters that I got in teaching English to other languages, and this position was open to do that,” Parshall said.
Parshall’s favorite thing about the multilingual program is helping the kids who may not be academic in English and helping them succeed. “ If they are multilingual learners, we still get to work with them and help them be successful.” Parshall said.
Mr. Mason Evans, Business
New business teacher, former student shares his return

Mr. Mason Evans, a former student at Lakeview, is one of the school’s new teachers this year. Evans, whose father also taught at Lakeview, originally resisted the idea of becoming an educator despite growing up with two teacher parents.
Evans initially planned to pursue a career in insurance risk management. However, he soon realized that a traditional office setting wasn’t for him. His perspective shifted after he returned to KCC for extra credits.
“When I came back to KCC to get free credits, I kind of realized there that I wanted to be a teacher and didn’t really decide on teaching until I talked to Mrs. Bost and she pushed me in that direction,” Evans said.
Evans’ journey into teaching involved moments of self-doubt. He lacked self-confidence while considering the path but gained certainty after gaining classroom experience. Completing a trimester of student teaching confirmed he made the right decision.
Now a business teacher, Evans loves using project-based learning to engage students. He enjoys watching them develop their own ideas.
“Seeing the creativity of my students, being able to watch them make something for themselves,” Evans said.
