Chemistry on the Court

How the girls strong bond keeps them going

The volleyball team has been doing amazing on the court this season, earning the All-City title and continuing to put on a show. The team’s success, players say, comes down to one thing, chemistry on the court.
“We’re such a close group, and that makes a huge difference,” Sydney Manning said. “Everyone supports each other, and we keep our energy up even when matches get tough.”
That team bond has helped the girls improve their skills. Moving from middle school to high school is a huge jump in competition. Sydney said the friendships she has made along the way across all grades have helped her stay focused and motivated. “We’ve been playing together for years, and that connection really shows on the court,” she said. “We trust each other, and that’s why we’ve been able to keep our streak going.” Emerson Manning said.
The girls have goals of adding a district and possibly a regional title to their record, the team won’t be stopping anytime soon. “It’s a lot of work,” Emerson said, “but playing with my best friends and my sister makes it all worth it.”
Abbigail Taft talked about being underestimated as a team, “We have a younger team, so we’re often underestimated”. Taft said.
She also talked about how she had to learn to be flexible on the court, “My biggest challenge this year was trying to be as flexible as possible, because I was utilized in multiple different positions. I would say this year I took part in more positions than I’ve ever played,” Taft said.
