Ilan, a senior exchange student from France, came to the U.S. to meet new people and share new culture.
“I wanted to challenge myself by changing my whole daily life,” he said.
Before coming to the U.S., Ilan was excited for a new high school, a new family, and to discover new things, however, he was also scared to leave everything he knew behind.
One major difference he’s noticed is that everything is bigger here, “…cities in Europe are reallt more compact, and here it’s more spread out.”
Ilan played for the Boys’ Varsity Soccer team, and
would like to play a sport for every season. He is most interested in Principles of Biomedical Sciences, Music Theory and Film, as they are classes he’s not used to having in France.
His favorite experience so far are his soccer games, “We get to visit around Michigan and play, and I really enjoy playing soccer.”
Coming to the U.S. gave Ilan tme to decide what to do in the future as this year “doesn’t count” over in France, “…the different system needs some special exam to like [validate] a year,” he said.
Ilan’s advice to future exchange students is short and simple, “Do it.”
