Golfers Hayley Barnhart and Josephine Pawlowicz discussed the season and their personal connection to the sport. Barnhart explained her reason for joining the team.
“I started playing because I looked fun and I loved watching the sport,” Barnhart said.
During her first match, Barnhart considered quitting because the game felt too difficult, but she continued playing. Her biggest challenge, Barnhart stated, was reduced playing time.
“Not playing as much because we had a lot of new people on it,” Barnhart said.
Barnhart enjoyed the sport because of its uniqueness and the time spent with friends.
“The environment during a meet gives you a chance to get to know other girls, and it’s nice out, and everyone is getting along well,” Barnhart said.
Pawlowicz, a varsity player, started playing golf at age 6. She enjoyed meeting new girls from opposing teams and missing a full day of school for meets.
“The environment is very calm and relaxing, everyone is in their own mind and they’re all kind,” Pawlowicz said.
Pawlowicz faced a challenge with dual sporting. Because she also participated in swimming during the same season, she often needed to practice golf alone. Pawlowicz advised new or interested players to focus on small details and practice daily.
The athletes finished their season with a positive outlook and formed new bonds with teammates.
“Have a positive mindset, keep going out everyday,” said Barnhart and Pawlowicz.
