After taking a break last year, Powderpuff football returned this fall on Oct. 2 with the underclassmen defeating the seniors 18 to eight in a lively matchup.
For many players, it was their first time playing Powderpuff. Junior Delaney McCullough joined the team because all of her friends wanted to play in hopes of living their junior year to the fullest. McCullough brought some spirit to the field by providing the pink ski masks that the underclassmen wore.
“I bought everyone pink ski masks,” McCullough said. “It cost me 40 dollars, but it was worth it.”
Senior Emerson Manning said she jumped at the chance to play since it was allowed again this year.
“It was very mind-opening,” Manning said. “I realized football is not as easy as it looks, so props to the football team.”
Players and student coaches from both teams brought enthusiasm to the field, with highlights including long runs, deep passes, and strong defensive plays. The game, originally planned for two 20 minute quarters, was extended as players and fans wanted to keep the excitement going.
McCullough credited her team’s win to teamwork and said she’d “definitely play again.” Manning encouraged others to join next year, calling it “a fun experience” and “a chance to take advantage of school traditions that don’t happen every year.”
The event marked a successful comeback, giving students a chance to connect, compete, and show school spirit. Many players hope Powderpuff continues as an annual part of homecoming week for years to come.
